Seinfeld was one of the most successful television series of all time — and who would have thought that could be possible from a show “about nothing”!

Years later and Jerry Seinfeld is still raking in millions of dollars based off his original Seinfeld television success. With such a successful show, a lot of research, work, time and effort must have went into preparing for each episode, right?

Yes… and no…

A recent article actually featured this process and how it actually came down to Jerry simply making it a mission for himself to write a new joke every day….

So how did he do it? The answer is actually much simpler than you may think and it’s a proven method to helping you effectively smash any goal you set for 2015.

Jerry’s secret strategy?

He used a system whereby he would aim to write one joke every day. That’s it – just one joke. Not five, not ten just one.

Once he’d written his joke he would place a big red cross over that day on his calendar and after a few days of doing this a chain would form. The system then became about not breaking the chain, rather than the joke itself.

The moral of this story is that nothing is created over night and “that the smallest increment of work can add up to a project of mammoth sized proportions and you don’t get overwhelmed in the process” — which applies perfectly to our world of internet marketing, business and blogging.

For example, blogging is huge! There are over 300+ million blogs in the world today and thousands of new blogs and pieces of content are going live every minute. This stat in itself is enough to scare off any newbie bloggers that are thinking about getting started… but guess what, we all have to start someone!

Back in 2007 when I launched this blog, I had ZERO readers to the site… but I kept on writing.

Today there are over 1,000 articles on the site and thousands of readers daily.

It all starts with TAKING ACTION and progressing over time.

I could give you a thousand examples of how this works, but the method is still always the same.

Jerry Seinfeld Quote

“The BEST things in life have been the BAD things that TAUGHT ME STUFF” – Jerry Seinfeld, from his AMA (image credit)

It’s easy to get started, but consistency is key. LifeHacker also wrote about Jerry’s productivity, which mentioned:

He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker.

He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”

“Don’t break the chain,” he said again for emphasis.

As you can see, it’s all about GETTING STARTED, but also having CONSISTENCY.

Easier said than done… but it works every time.

Want to lose weight?… Start with 10 push ups everyday — just 10! Is it really that hard?

Want to become a well known blogger?… Commit to one amazing blog post per week.

Want to quit smoking or drinking? Start today and don’t break that chain!

The importance of starting with just one day and NOT skipping a day… is that it’s extremely easy to skip that next day after you skipped the first. Seeing a big calendar with a bunch of red X’s is a huge motivation to keep your consistency in check, and helps us all from being a George Costanza.

Seinfeld I'm a Quitter

No matter what you are planning to do better… take it one day at a time and never look back!
